Can you swim in Lake Ozette?
Most visitors to Lake Ozette do not come to swim or even boat on the lake, but to hike the ~3-mile mostly board-walked trails to the Pacific Coast at Sand Point or Cape Alava, or hike the “Ozette Triangle,” which includes these trails and (tide willing) the stretch of beach between then camp along the coast.
Can you sleep in your car in Olympic National Park?
Overnight parking is adjacent to the Hoh Rain Forest Visitor Center and the area also offers 88 campsites, hiking trails and a diverse collection of wildlife including the Pacific tree frog, Olympic black bear, northern spotted owl and Roosevelt elk.

What happened to the Ozette village?
In the winter of 1969-1970 a storm caused the bank at the Ozette village location to slump, exposing hundreds of perfectly preserved wooden artifacts! Makah oral history told of a “great slide” which buried a portion of Ozette long ago. Archaeologists collaboration with the Tribe proved this oral history correct.

What kind of fish are in Lake Ozette?
Ozette is within Olympic National Park and is regulated by the National Park Service. Resident Coastal Cutthroat Trout, Kokanee, Yellow Perch, Largemouth Bass, Yellow Bullhead and Northern Pikeminnow are present, and various anadromous species migrate through the lake.
Can you Boondock in Olympic National Park?
Dispersed camping (or boondocking) is allowed inside Olympic National Forest. The forest allows camping just about anywhere and everywhere within its boundaries, though certain areas come with certain restrictions.

Can I get a wilderness permit at Ozette ranger station?
Please note: wilderness permits and bear canisters are not available at Ozette Ranger Station. When hiking along the coast, make sure to check the tides! It’s possible to get stranded when high tide rolls in, making certain areas impassable. Ozette is one of the more remote areas of the park.
